Arkema introduced Kynar Aquatec® FMA (fluoropolymer-modified acrylic) resins, designed for the formulation of VOC-compliant cool-roof coatings and protective topcoats for exterior building products. The water-borne, acrylic-modified PVDF fluoropolymer technology is reported to extend the effective life span of solar reflective (cool) roof coatings and provide long-term weather protection and dirt-resistance properties of roofs and exterior building components.
The resins are supplied as aqueous latexes, which can be used to formulate coatings that do not require baking, and can be applied in factory settings or field applied as air-dry products.
The launch of the resins is the latest in a series of Arkema product introductions involving Kynar® PVDF chemistry, including materials for photovoltaic panels, wind-turbine blades, and lithium ion batteries for hybrid electric vehicles.
