Information Research (IRL), based in Ealing, London, recently released Profile of the Brazilian Paint Industry, 2nd Edition. The profile states that the paint and coatings demand in Brazil might grow to 1,651,000 tons by 2013—an annual growth rate of 4–5%.
According to IRL, 74% of the total demand for paint in Brazil lies in the decorative sector. Rising home ownership, rising living standards, and easier credit availability will support the decorative paint market; however, the best growth rates are expected in the marine and protective coatings segments. The increase is due to offshore exploration by Petrobras.
Although there is no formal legislation for volatile organic compound (VOC) limits in coatings in Brazil, ABRAFATI, the Brazilian paint and coatings manufacturers’ association, has set out guidance on VOC levels and production standards.
