Q2 Results in for MSA

MSA (Pittsburgh, PA) announced decreased sales in all three segments for the second quarter of 2009. The company’s overall net sales fell by 22% to $227.2 million, and net income decreased by 38% to $12.5 million.

In North America, fall protection was down by $2.4 million and head protection by $6.6 million due to the effects of the recession on construction demand and industrial markets. Overall sales in the North American segment decreased by $36.3 million, or 24%. Net income had the smallest decline in North America, falling only 6%, or $0.7 million.

The company’s sales in the European segment decreased by 27% and sales in the international segment fell by 13%. Net income in Europe dropped by 91% and by 51% in the international segment.
