International Specialty Products (ISP) announced the launch of a new Internet website focused on the four major sources of wood degradation and technical solutions for coatings formulations designed to produce higher-performing wood-care products.
The site, located at ispwoodcare.com, examines the root causes of wood degradation, such as visible and ultraviolet light (UV), water and moisture, insects, fungi, and algae, and suggests wood-coatings formulation approaches for industrial and consumer products.
The site includes an overview of the emerging issue of lignin protection as a strategy for protecting wood, and offers a technical library of literature, formulations, and test results that support higher-performing wood-care protection coatings. Products featured on the website include SunCare® lignin protection products, WetCare™ water repellency additives, and the company’s line of IPBC-based fungicides.
The new lignin-protection ingredient line functions by stabilizing the primary lignin in the wood, protecting against a range of factors that cause wood degradation. The technology functions by penetrating and stabilizing lignins within the interior surface area of wood, the company says. Two new products in the line—SunCare Concentrate, SunCare UV Concentrate—function as additives in primer and stain applications. The third product, SunCare 800, is a ready-to-use formulated primer for untreated exterior wood.
The company says studies it has carried out show that the products significantly increase the level of wood protection and prevent yellowing of coatings.
