Over one million plastic bottles have been diverted from landfills in the first seven months of OMNOVA Solutions’ revolutionary RECORE Recycled Wall Technology, the company has announced. Omnova also reported that its entire commercial wallcovering portfolio now meets California 01350 specifications for low-VOC emissions.
RECORE contain 30% recycled content, including a minimum of 20% post-consumer recycled content. After seven months of production, OMNOVA has caused about 63,000 pounds of plastic bottles to be recycled into commercial wallcovering.
All new designs within the company’s Bolta, Essex, Genon and Tower brands—a total of about 350 SKUs—have been converted to the RECORE platform.
“We are truly excited about this platform,” said Roger Oates, General Manager, OMNOVA Solutions Commercial Wallcoverings and Coated Fabrics. “RECORE represents a commitment by OMNOVA to meeting our customers’ design and performance needs, while reducing the impact on the environment.
“We’ve always strived to achieve the highest levels of color, design and functionality. And now, we also diligently examine ways to reduce the environmental footprint of our products and processes as outlined in OMNOVA’s Vision 2014 sustainability commitment.”
Wallcoverings made with RECORE average 10% post-industrial content, with construction trim, bindery scraps, obsolete inventory and sample material finding their way back into the manufacturing process.
RECORE can be used for both new construction (LEED-NC) and commercial interior (LEED-CI) projects and can contribute to up to six LEED credits under the Materials & Resources and Indoor Environmental Quality categories.
OMNOVA Solutions has also announced that its entire commercial wallcovering portfolio now meets California 01350 specifications for low VOC emissions. This includes the Avant, Bolta, Essex, Genon, Scion and Tower brands, as well as private label offerings, all of which feature either OMNOVA’s ECORE Advanced Wall Technology or RECORE Recycled Wall Technology platforms.
California 01350 is a special environmental standard developed to evaluate and reduce the impact of building materials on indoor air quality and health in interior environments.
