ASTM International (West Conshohocken, PA) is seeking nominations for the William T. Cavanaugh Memorial Award. It is an annual award granted to a person widely recognized in the standards system who has made extraordinary contributions to the field of national and international voluntary standards. Nominations are due April 1, 2009.
Nominees do not necessarily have to be members of ASTM International; the title of honorary member is give to recipients who are non-ASTM members. Nominations should describe the candidate’s qualification including relevant information on professional background; outstanding contributions made within ASTM, other standards organizations, and professional societies; offices and special positions held; and accomplishments in advancing the efforts of global standards, including past honors, citations, and awards.
The William T. Cavanaugh Memorial Award was established in 1987 to honor William T. Cavanaugh. He served as ASTM’s CEO from 1970 to 1985, and the association credits him with establishing them as the world leader in the development and dissemination of voluntary consensus standards.
