LyondellBasell Industries (Rotterdam, Netherlands) has taken steps to temporarily idle two of its low-density polyethylene units in Carrington, UK, and Fos-sur-Mer, France. This measure will last into the second quarter of 2009, according to the company. The VP for polyethylene in Europe, Richard Roudeix, stated that this is an effort to “continue business in a way that is economically reasonable.” He also noted that polyethylene demand has improved since fourth quarter 2008, but it is not back to normal patterns.
Privately owned by Access Industries, LyondellBasell produces polymers, petrochemicals, and fuels. Its polymers are used in coatings and other products.
