Karl Altergott has been named president and chief operating officer of Dunn-Edwards Corporation, the leading manufacturer of premium architectural paints in the Southwest. Altergott has an extensive management background, most recently serving as CEO of Rincon Industries, a leading precision metal fabrication and data center equipment company.
Altergott succeeds Dennis Kromer, who retired as Dunn-Edwards president at the end of 2008. Altergott began his career as an engineer, working for RBF Consulting, a prominent civil engineering firm. He was inspired to military service and joined the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served eight years, with roles as an operations supervisor, maintenance supervisor and AV-8B pilot. He has served in executive management roles at Rain Bird Corporation, the nation’s leading irrigation company, and at BMK LLP.
Kromer spent 17 years at Dunn-Edwards as CFO and, more recently, as president. He was instrumental in Dunn-Edwards’ steady growth throughout the Southwest. The company opened its 100th retail location in mid-2008.
“As a native of Southern California, I’ve watched Dunn-Edwards for years and admired its strategy of ensuring the success of its professional contractors, architects and design customers by providing them with the highest quality products and service,” Altergott said. “And I’m impressed with the organization’s industry leadership and look forward to joining this remarkable company.”
Altergott earned a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from Loyola Marymount University and an M.B.A. from Pepperdine University. He resides with his wife and two children in Westchester, Calif.
