OMNOVA Rolls Out Recycling, Green Line

OMNOVA Solutions has strengthened its environmental commitment with a new Commercial Wallcovering Reclamation Program and the introduction of REcore Recycled Wall Technology, with wallcoverings that look and perform like vinyl but feature a minimum of 30 percent recycled content.

All new designs introduced in the OMNOVA Solutions brands—Bolta, Essex, Genon and Tower—and produced after Nov. 1, 2008, will feature REcore Recycled Wall Technology.
 
OMNOVA’s new reclamation program is designed to divert used wallcovering from landfills and into the production of new building products.

Effective immediately, OMNOVA Solutions is accepting post-use fabric backed vinyl wallcoverings, regardless of the original manufacturer.  OMNOVA will recycle the vinyl back into new wallcoverings that feature the company’s new REcore recycled wall technology and into other products for the design and construction industry.  The program will also accept non-PVC commercial wallcoverings that feature REcore technology.

The process is easy.  When building owners, architects or designers select new wallcoverings from OMNOVA Solutions, they can turn in wallcoverings that have been removed, as well as construction scrap, to OMNOVA’s Wallcovering Reclamation Program.  Working through OMNOVA’s network of wallcovering distribution partners, architects and designers can use the program to earn Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) credits for renovation and construction projects by diverting construction waste from the waste stream.

OMNOVA’s new REcore technology, which features 30 percent recycled content, follows the 2007 introduction of Ecore, a “no compromise” PVC alternative technology used in the company’s Avant and Scion wallcovering brands. 

REcore Recycled Wall Technology can be used for both new construction (LEED-NC) and commercial interior (LEED-CI) projects and can contribute to up to six LEED credits under the Materials & Resources and Indoor Environmental Quality categories.

REcore products are priced consistently with a traditional Type II, 20 ounce, nonwoven-backed product. Performance is comparable to a vinyl wallcovering, the company says.

OMNOVA also has achieved GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality certification.
