Polymer company Covestro (Leverkeusen, Germany) announced Thursday (Aug. 24) that its Polyurethanes segment and its Coatings, Adhesives, Specialties segment will each be getting a new head.

Daniel Meyer, Michael Friede

Covestro has named Daniel Meyer (left) head of its Polyurethanes segment, with Michael Friede (right) succeeding him as head of the Coatings, Adhesives, Specialties segment.

Daniel Meyer, who most recently served as head of Coatings, Adhesives, Specialties, will take the helm of the Polyurethanes business. He replaces Markus Steilemann, who now serves Chief Commercial Officer and who will succeed Patrick Thomas as company CEO next year, according to a succession plan announced earlier this year.

Meyer will be succeeded as head of Coatings, Adhesives, Specialties by Michael Friede, previously manager of Covestro’s global elastomers business.

About the Execs

Meyer, according to Covestro, joined Bayer France S.A. in 1992, coming to Bayer AG in 1997. That company’s Bayer MaterialScience business was spun off as Covestro in 2015. Meyer has held various roles in the company, managing coating raw materials in Asia Pacific for a time, and heading up Business Development before taking over Coatings, Adhesives, Specialties.

Friede has been with the company since joining Bayer as a trainee; he served in the Corporate Audit department and managed accounts in Coatings, Adhesives, Specialties before taking over the elastomers business in 2014.

Steilemann will take the role of CEO when Thomas, who has held the position for 10 years, retires in September 2018.

About the Company

Covestro, which reported 2016 sales of EUR 11.9 billion (about $13 billion), is among the world’s largest polymer companies. The firm manufactures high-tech polymer materials for the automotive, construction, wood processing and furniture, and electrical and electronics industries. The company has 30 production sites worldwide—its North American headquarters is in Pittsburgh—and employs approximately 15,600 workers.
