Thursday, September 8, 2016

Comment | More

When it comes to maintenance painting strategies, overcoating is a solution that can restore both aesthetic and protective properties to a structure without removing and replacing an existing coating system.

To aid in understanding the benefits and challenges the process brings with it, JPCL has announced an updated edition of its eBook on the topic.

Overcoating Bridges and Other Structures, a free downloadable eBook, features six articles on topics including planning and specification guidance, quality control, failure prevention, selection, and working with lead-based paint.

The eBook is available at no charge as part of a series by JPCL publisher Technology Publishing Co.

Overcoating - coating compatibility
Richard A. Burgess

Coating compatibility is a bigger problem for overcoating than many believe, Richard A. Burgess writes in "Overcoating: Maintenance or Mayhem? Best Practices for Writing an Overcoating Specification," part of the revised Overcoating Bridges and Other Structures eBook from JPCL.

The entire series, as well as other technical materials, is available via free download from the PaintSquare Store.

QC, Selection, and Lead

Overcoating Bridges and Other Structures includes these features:

  • Overcoating: Maintenance or Mayhem? Best Practices for Writing an Overcoating Specification;
  • The Vincent Thomas Bridge: A Study in Overcoating and QC;
  • Preventing Overcoating Failures;
  • Overcoating the Caruthersville Bridge: How the Owner, Inspector, and Contractor Met the Challenges from System Selection to Application and Protection;
