What you need to know when performing maintenance painting of steel bridges and industrial structures is the focus of the next free webinar from JPCL and SSPC.

Coatings veteran Rich Burgess will present "Overcoating: Reasons, Resources and Reality" from 11 am to noon ET Thursday, March 15.

New and old bridges

"Overcoating: Reasons, Resources and Reality" addresses the details you need to consider when approaching maintenance coating for steel structures.

Webinar participants will be eligible to receive continuing education credits from SSPC.

Participants may register here free.

What You Will Learn

Preservation of steel bridges is high on the priority list of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) as well as owners of industrial steel structures, all of which are faced with the costs associated with asset protection from corrosion.

In this webinar, Burgess will review reasons for overcoating, the resources available to critically evaluate the existing coating system to determine suitability for overcoating, and some actual case studies of successes and failures associated with this approach to maintenance painting.

Presenter Experience

Burgess is a senior consultant for KTA-Tator, where he has been employed for more than 18 years. Burgess is a NACE Certified Coatings Inspector Level 3 (Peer Review); an SSPC Certified Protective Coatings Specialist; an SSPC C-3 Supervisor/Competent Person for Deleading of Industrial Structures; a principal instructor for the SSPC C-1, C-3, and C-5 courses; and an approved instructor for the NACE CIP Program. He also serves as an instructor for a variety of KTA-offered training seminars.

Webinar Education Series

The webinar is part of the 2016 JPCL/SSPC Webinar Education Series, which provides continuing education for SSPC recertifications and technology updates on important topics.

SSPC is an accredited training provider for the Florida Board of Professional Engineers (FBPE), and Professional Engineers in Florida may submit SSPC Webinar Continuing Education Units to the board.

To do so, applicants must download the FBPE CEU form and pass the Webinar Exam, which costs $25.
