AkzoNobel’s International brand has launched a thin-film, spray-applied insulation coating for industrial environments.

Intertherm 3350
AkzoNobel

Intertherm 3350 is a spray-applied insulation coating for industrial environments that can bring hot surfaces down to safe-touch temperatures, AkzoNobel says.

Intertherm 3350 protects personnel from contact with hot surfaces of up to 350°F, according to the company. It can be used as insulating material for heat and energy conservation and also reduces exposure to corrosion under insulation (CUI).

Continuous Insulation Barrier

The product can be applied with standard airless spray equipment to form a continuous thermal insulation barrier that brings hot surfaces down to safe-touch temperatures, AkzoNobel says.

"Unlike bulkier multi-layer insulation systems being used in the  market, Intertherm 3350 is super lightweight and easy to install," says Chris McMillan, AkzoNobel Protective Coatings' North American Marketing Manager.

"The coating takes up minimal space, so coated surfaces can be quickly visually inspected," McMillan says.

Comment from GOPALJI SINGH, (11/26/2015, 9:00 PM)

Many vendors have ben trying to hard sell thermal insulating coating claiming that after applying their coating piping and equipment can be left uninsulated and yet heat loss will be comparable to those of insulated pipes. to support their claim they show some nonstandard tests like heating with blow torch. Thermal conductivity of Intertherm 3350 is twice the value for mineral wool. In that case, it is not be possible to remove insulation if pipes are painted with Intertherm 3350 or similar insulating coatings. An article was published in NASA journal SPINOFF on these products. To my query, NASA SPINOFF Chief editor reply was that the manufacturers of such coating do not respond to verify their claim. what is experts opinion? can fibrous insulation be substituted by insulating coatings in for piping and equipment in process industries? if so up to what temperature in tropical countries?
