The PPG Industries Foundation has awarded more than $340,000 in scholarships in 2014 to 54 U.S students who live in communities where the company operates.

The new scholarships—each worth $1,500 annually for four years of undergraduate study—include 35 awards for PPG employees’ children, 17 awards for other students who live in communities near PPG facilities, and two designated for outstanding African American high school students, the foundation announced.

The PPG Industries Foundation has awarded 54 scholarships worth more than $340,000 in 2014. The 2013 scholarship winners are pictured here.

"Through the National Merit Scholarship Programs, the PPG Industries Foundation has been helping academic dreams come true for five decades," said Sue Sloan, executive director of the foundation.

"It's quite an honor to know we're making a difference for so many young minds and future leaders."

Foundation Awards

Founded in 1951, the PPG Industries Foundation supports organizations that address the educational, human services, cultural, arts, civic and community affairs needs of communities where PPG and its employees have a presence.

The foundation has several programs that reward successful students:

  • The Plant Community Scholarship Program is a four-year award to an outstanding graduating high school senior from a PPG plant area.
  • The National Achievement Scholarship Program honors two outstanding African American students each year.
  • The National Merit Employee-Child Scholarship Program honors high school students who are children of PPG employees.

Each stipend is $1,500 per year for up to four years.

The scholarships are based on student scores in the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) in their junior year of high school. Recipients are selected by the National Merit Scholarship Corp., the United States' largest independently financed competition for college undergraduate scholarships.
