Sherwin-Williams Protective and Marine Coatings has announced a new series of  fast-drying, high-build, solvent-free polyurethanes for the water pipe market.

Products in the Poly-Cote line are chemical- and abrasion-resistant and provide a smooth, glossy finish. According to the company, the coatings offer the hydrophobic properties of an epoxy along with the durability, flexibility and fast cure times of a urethane.

Sherwin-Williams' new Poly-Cote line includes coatings for pipe exteriors, interiors, tight work spaces, and coating welds and damage repairs.

All products are NSF certified up to 250 mils.

Four Products

The line consists of four products:

  • Poly-Cote 110 Fast Set is a polyurethane coating formulated for exterior diameter pipe applications and has a dry-to-handle time of five to 10 minutes, according to the company. It can be applied via plural-component proportioning equipment with direct impingement mixing.
  • Poly-Cote 110 Rapid Set is designed for interior diameter pipe applications and provides a dry-to-handle time of 20 to 25 minutes. According to Sherwin-Williams, it has a smooth finish for achieving better water transfer.
  • Poly-Cote 115 is a flexible polyurethane coating developed for small fittings, elbows, valves and other tight work spaces. It offers a 24-hour recoat window, the company says.
  • Poly-Cote 115FR is available in a kit for coating welds and damage repairs. It can be applied by hand to both exterior coating and interior lining systems, according to the company.
