Talk about high hopes: China has unveiled a new project that will include the world’s tallest pair of towers.

The project will also reportedly include the world’s tallest living wall, the world’s tallest kaleidoscope, and coatings designed to filter pollution.

London-based Chetwoods Architects unveiled its plan for the world's tallest pair of towers this month.

Intended to reach some 3,280 feet into the sky, the Phoenix Towers in Wuhan, China, are poised to put the central Chinese city on the environmental map and top the height of the world’s tallest skyscraper—Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

London-based Chetwoods Architects unveiled its plan for the pair of towers this month.

Landmark, Technologies

The towers, which will function as landmark tourist attractions housing shops, restaurants, offices and other amenities, will occupy 17 acres of a 116-acre site that sits upon an island in a lake, the architects say.

The project will incorporate a vast array of environmental building technologies, including biodynamic pollution-absorbing coatings meant to filter and clean the city’s air, the firm adds.

A variety of innovative technologies will be incorporated in the buildings, according to project details.

The towers will also have green walls; insect hotels; biomass boilers; wind turbines; solar photovoltaics; a thermal chimney; rainwater harvesting; and evaporative cooling systems, according to project details.

The design was inspired by Chinese Phoenix mythological birds, Gizmag reported.

Currently, the development is awaiting final approval from the Wuhan Mayor. Should the project move forward, it would be completed by 2018, reports say.

The estimated cost of the towers is $2.4 billion, according to the Telegraph.
