PPG Industries’ protective and marine coatings business has launched a high-temperature coating to protect substrates from corrosion under insulation.

HI-TEMP 222G is a single-component paint that can be applied to hot surfaces of up to 400°F, according to the company.

Preventing CUI Damage

The coating can be applied in environments such as power plants, petrochemical facilities, refineries and offshore rigs.

PPG's HI-TEMP 222G is a new coating to protect high-temperature substrates from corrosion under insulation. Application environments include petrochemical facilities, offshore rigs, refineries and power plants, the company said.

According to PPG, these facilities face significant problems from CUI that can result in costly direct damage to equipment. Citing independent studies, PPG noted that "between 40 and 60 percent of all pipe maintenance costs directly result from CUI."

"PPG HI-TEMP 222G was designed specifically to address issues incurred by using alternate products in CUI situations," said Diane Kappas, PPG vice president of protective and marine coatings, Americas.

The coating can be top-coated with a variety of hues that won't discolor at elevated temperatures, PPG said.
