Industrial tape maker Shurtape has introduced what it calls the first high-performance masking tape designed for the oil and natural-gas pipe coating industry.

Shurtape CP 901 was developed in response to the industry's demand for strict attention to detail and compliance with precise specifications, the manufacturer says.

Shurtape says CP 901 is the first masking tape designed for the pipeline industry.

CP 901 combines a rubber-based adhesive system and a durable crepe backing for masking steel pipe before coating under extreme temperatures.

Shurtape calls CP901 "the first tape in the industry designed specifically for the steel pipe coating application process."

Features and Performance

According to Shurtape, CP 901 is designed to:

  • Apply quickly, with easy unwinding, splice-free design and "quick-stick" performance;
  • Maintain adhesion through the coating process, with a backing that resists charring up to 460 degrees F for one to two minutes while moving through the coating booth; and
  • Remove cleanly, producing consistent, sharp coating lines without residue.

CP 901 is designed to adhere during high-temperature coating and remove cleanly.

CP 901 is designed for the Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE) coating process (15-35 feet per minute) and for high-speed FBE (up to 75 feet per minute). It can also be used for the longer-duration FBE and Abrasion Resistant Overcoat processes, according to Shurtape.

Based in Hickory, NC, Shurtape provides a wide variety of pressure-sensitive and specialty tapes for the coatings, transportation, packaging, HVAC and other markets worldwide.
