Patrol Hazards in OSHA Video Game

A new video game can help workers identify safety issues and raise awareness about resources to address hazards in the workplace.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration's Hazard Identification Training Tool is a game-based training tool that employers and workers can use to virtually explore ways to identify common workplace hazards in the manufacturing and construction industries.

Watch OSHA's Game Trailer video to learn more about the new tool.

OSHA developed the tool in conjunction with its Training Institute to assist small business owners in effectively identifying hazards in their workplace.

The Training Institute provides training and education in occupational safety and health for federal and state compliance officers, state consultants, other federal agency personnel and the private sector.

Hazard Identification is 'Critical'

"Hazard identification is a critical part of creating an injury and illness prevention program that will keep workers safe and health on the job," said Dr. David Michaels, assistant secretary of labor for occupational safety and health.

"This new tool not only educates employers about how to take control of their workplaces and protect workers, it also demonstrates that following well-established safet practices is also good for the bottom line."

OSHA's Hazard Identification Training Tool offers players construction and manufacturing scenarios.

Michaels introduced the new tool June 10 at the American Society of Safety Engineers conference in Orlando, FL.

Training Scenarios

In one scenario, users pretend they are managing the construction of a small convenience store and have to identify hazards with machines, scaffolding, and areas of building such as pouring slab, setting trusses, and steel structure.

Players can also pretend they are the head of a manufacturing company that makes parts for next-generation hovercrafts and must find hazards to maintain a safe workplace.

The game also offers a chance to practice visual hazard inspection for pieces of equipment including saws, mixers, scaffolding and fall protection inspection.

What a nice support to the workers, i just doubt if workers will have a time to play the game... I'm sure it's better than be in a room spend hours watching slides! Let's play safety! ! !
