BASF Bows Coating to Repel Water

A new modified-acrylic protective coating is billed to repel water and resist dirt on a variety of substrates, including concrete, EIFS and stucco.

Tersus Color Coat is designed to repel water, leaving the surface better able to resist mold and mildew, according to manufacturer BASF.

Color Coat is a smooth coating formulated to produce a highly hydrophobic, non-polar surface that repels water.

"When water comes in contact with Tersus Color Coat, it beads and carries away dirt, soil and debris," BASF said in a product announcement. Its water resistance also makes the surface less vulnerable to mold and mildew.

Product Testing

Color Coat's anti-soiling properties have been successfully tested with ASTM D3719 – Dirt Collection and Miami Dade County TAS 143-95 to confirm dirt pickup resistance, according to BASF.

Tersus Finishes

Tersus Color Coat is part of the Tersus Finishes line, which debuted in 2013.

“These tests enable the design professional to evaluate and ultimately specify minimum requirements of dirt collection resistance,” said Peter Daechsel, national marketing manager, BASF’s Wall Systems business.

Tersus Color Coat is available factory tinted or as a point-of-sale tint base in five-gallon pails.
