Versiline CUI 56990 is Hempel’s new coating designed to resist heat and protect carbon and stainless steel from corrosion under insulation.

The system is the latest in the Versiline line of specialty coatings for highly challenging applications such as chemical tanks, stack linings, absorbers and other process equipment.

The coating was rolled out Friday (May 2) and is currently available only in North America. Global distribution is planned, according to Hempel.

Versiline CUI 56990 may be used on carbon and stainless steel  in conditions ranging from cryogenic to up to 650°C.

Versiline CUI 56990 can be used both for new building and maintenance, in conditions ranging from cryogenic to elevated temperatures of up to 650°C.

Preventing Micro-Cracking

The coating's heat-resistant properties make it resistant to micro-cracking, according to Hempel. A common cause of premature coating failures, micro-cracking occurs when the equipment is exposed to elevated temperatures and then encounters extended corrosive conditions as part of its regular operational cycle.

Hempel said Versiline CUI 56990 can help ensure a "safe, reliable and cost-effective process environment with less risks of unexpected shut downs and lower maintenance costs."

“Versiline CUI 56990 reduces the probability of corrosion on pressurized piping and equipment under insulation," Group Oil & Gas Segment Manager Simon Daly said in a product announcement.

The single-pack system can be applied to hot working process equipment, avoiding shutdowns.

Daly said the product "decreases the probabilities of equipment failure" and "effectively increases the time between repainting."
