A new controlled-descent device is designed to be an “all-purpose rescue solution” for workers exposed to heights, 3M announced.

The 3M and DEUS Escape and Rescue System enables steady descent from heights of up to 590 feet, according to 3M.

3M is the exclusive distributor of DEUS Escape and Rescue Products.

In September, 3M became the exclusive distributor of Boulder, CO-based DEUS Escape and Rescue's products for fall protection-related industries.

According to 3M, the system weighs less than three pounds and can be used to rescue multiple workers in a short period of time.

The kits are available for individual and multi-person escape, assisted rescue and self-rescue.

Two Options

Two controlled-descent device options are available:

  • The 3300, for rescue from heights up to 350 feet, at a descent rate of 3 meters (9.8 feet) per second; and
  • The 3700, for rescue from heights of up to 590 feet, at a descent rate of 2 meters (6.6 feet) per second.

3M and DEUS's new escape and rescue systems come in two options: the 3700 (pictured), for heights up to 590 feet; and the 3300, for heights up to 350 feet.

"When people think of those working at extreme heights, they think of the risk of falling," said Andrew Johnson, 3M's Fall Protection Product Marketer. "They don't think about the risk of people getting stranded in an emergency or after a fall, but we know that's just as real of a concern."

Johnson said the systems helps provide security for industries including oil and gas, electrical distribution, utilities, wind energy and manufacturing.
