Industry veterans have been tapped to lead the Roof Coatings Manufacturers Association, the British Coatings Federation, and the American Subcontractors Association.

Helene Hardy Pierce, vice president of Technical Services, Codes and Industry Relations for GAF Materials Corp. of Wayne, NJ, began a two-year term as president of RCMA on Feb. 24.

John Falder, Managing Director of HMG Paints Ltd., has been appointed president of the British Coatings Federation (BCF).

John Falder, of HMG Paints Ltd., has been appointed president of the British Coatings Federation. Helene Hardy Pierce, of GAF Materials Corp., will serve as RCMA's president for two years.

And Brian Johnson, president of Soil Consultants Inc. in Charleston, SC, will be ASA's national 2014-15 national president as of July 1.

The RCMA and ASA elections were held at the organizations' recent annual meetings, where other new officers were announced and awards bestowed. The BCF announced Falder's appointment last week.

RCMA: Leader Honored

In addition to its elections, the RCMA, which represents manufacturers of cold-applied protective roof coatings and cements, presented its highest honor to industry leader Brian Anthony.

Anthony received the 2013 Martin A. Davis Industry Leadership Award. Named for a visionary founder of RCMA, the award recognizes an individual who has "exemplified outstanding service and made significant contributions to the roof coatings industry."

Anthony, vice president of The Brewer Company (Milford, OH), has been active in RCMA for more than 20 years, serving as both vice president and president in that time.

W.J. "Skip" Leonard (left), of the Henry Company, presented RCMA's highest honor to Brian Anthony, vice president of the Brewer Company.

“Throughout Brian’s time with the RCMA, he has consistently been looked to as a leader in all aspects of the association’s development and growth, and has been particularly active with our technical programs,” said John Ferraro, RCMA executive director.

In addition to Pierce's election, RCMA tapped these officers for two-year terms:

  • Vice President W.J. "Skip" Leonard, Henry Company;
  • Vice President Steve Heinje, Quest Construction Products; and
  • Secretary-Treasurer Jonathan Dietzel, The SWT Group.

Anthony was also re-elected to the RCMA Board of Directors.

Also elected to fill two vacant seats on the board were John Ivancic, Sherwin-Williams; and Craig Smith, Superior Products International.

BCF: Brother Act

John Falder, BCF's new president, is currently chairman of the organization's Industrial Coatings Council and formerly chaired the Vehicle Refinish Group.

“I am delighted to have John bring his passion and enthusiasm to his role as President, which I’m sure will help the Federation’s cause in the coming years," said CEO Tom Bowtell.

Falder's brother Stephen, also of HMG, was president of BCF in 1999 and 2000.

HMG Paints is the largest independent, industrial paints manufacturer in the UK.

“I am honored to take on this prestigious role, and I am looking forward to representing the industry and to making a difference,” said John Falder.

ASA: 'True Honor'

Members of the ASA, the largest U.S. subcontractor organization, elected Johnson at their newly rechristened meeting, SUBExcel, earlier this month in New Orleans.

Johnson, a 30-year member of ASA and the 2013-14 vice president, called his election "a true honor."

Johnson succeeds 2013-14 ASA President Jack Austhof, Sobie Company Inc., Dutton, MI.

New president Brian Johnson has been active in the American Subcontractors Association for 30 years.

Other officers elected for 2014-15 were:

  • Vice President Letitia Haley Barker, Haley-Greer, Inc., Dallas, TX;
  • Treasurer Robert Abney, F.L. Crane & Sons Inc., Southaven, MS; and
  • Secretary Jeff Banker, Banker Insulation, Chandler, AZ.

In addition, two new national directors were elected to three-year terms: Shannon MacArthur, MEMCO Inc., Spring, TX; and Vince Irwin, Irwin Products, St. Louis, MO.

Best Practices Standouts

Finally, the ASA presented its 2013 National Construction Best Practices Awards to two construction contractors.

An Alberici joint venture built the $229 million Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge (pictured), which opened Feb. 9. Alberici Constructors (St. Louis, MO) and Bigane Paving (Chicago, IL) received 2013 ASA National Construction Best Practices Awards.

The contractors "demonstrate an extraordinary level of commitment to best industry practices, such as safety management, prompt payment, prompt processing of change requests and claims, and effective project scheduling and coordination," ACA said.

Those companies are:

  • Alberici Constructors, St. Louis, MO; and
  • Bigane Paving, Chicago, IL.
