For Rival NFC Bridges, How Tweet It Is

Two West Coast bridges have taken to Twitter to root on their city’s teams in this weekend’s NFC championship playoff game, going “toll to toll” in a friendly battle of #bridgewars.

Cheering on the San Francisco 49ers is the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, under the handle @SFBayBridge. Representing the Seattle Seahawks is the SR 520 Bridge over Lake Washington, under the handle @520_bridge.

Twitter accounts (not affiliated with DOTs) for the Bay Bridge (left) and the SR 520 Bridge have been participating in some friendly trash tweeting before the San Francisco 49ers and the Seattle Seahawks face each other this weekend.

Sparing no expense, both bridges have mocked their own construction issues to poke fun at the opposing team:

In case you need a refresher, work on the $6.4 billion Bay Bridge hit a snag when corrosion was found after massive bolts, installed for seismic stability, were left to sit in rain-filled concrete caps for several years. The SR 520 bridge's giant floating pontoons have had issues with cracking, and Washington transportation officials have owned up to poorly designing them.

Taking the trash talk up a notch, the 520 Bridge has suggested that 49ers fans can only dream of winning the Super Bowl, and the Bay Bridge questions whether all that Seattle coffee has messed with Seahawk fans' minds.

The Golden Gate Bridge was reportedly "too busy looking good" to get in on the trash talk.

The bridges have even placed friendly wagers on the game, including coffee and trading Seattle's rain for the Bay Area's fog.

The Bay Bridge has a special weapon in the form of a lucky troll, but if the bridges decide to up the ante, a $170 million wager would be most beneficial for the SR 520 bridge if the Seahawks win.

The San Francisco 49ers play the Seattle Seahawks in Seattle at 3:30 p.m. PT Sunday (Jan. 19).
