Staking a brand-new claim in the coatings industry, spray-equipment maker Graco Inc. has announced the acquisition of EcoQuip Inc., a manufacturer of abrasive-blasting equipment.

Graco, headquartered in Minneapolis, MN, manufactures fluid handling equipment. Chesapeake, VA-based EcoQuip produces eco-friendly abrasive blasting systems for coating removal and surface preparation.

Graco, a manufacturer of fluid handling equipment, announced its acquisition of EcoQuip Inc., an abrasive-blasting equipment manufacturer. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Terms of the acquisition, announced Thursday (Dec. 12), were not disclosed.

New Product Category

EcoQuip products will become part of Graco's Applied Fluid Technologies Division (AFTD) product portfolio.

"This acquisition aligns with our strategies to deliver leading technologies and expand our worldwide business," said Tim White, Graco AFTD Director of Sales and Marketing.

"EcoQuip's innovative products reflect technology advancements in the abrasive blasting industry, an adjacent product category in which Graco has not previously participated. The acquisition is beneficial as it puts EcoQuip technology into the hands of Graco's global distribution network," White said.

EcoQuip's Equipment

EcoQuip's vapor-abrasive blast equipment adds a fine mist during the spraying process to eliminate up to 97 percent of airborne particles usually produced in dry-blasting operations, Graco says.

The acquisition brings a product category "in which Graco has not previously participated," the company says. EcoQuip's abrasive-blast equipment adds a fine mist during the spraying process to eliminate airborne particles.

The equipment performs at the same production rate as traditional dry-blast equipment, while decreasing blast media consumption.

The products can be used in a variety of conditions, such as high humidity, rain and under water, according to Graco. The equipment can blast from 30 to 130 psi using readily available dry-blasting media.
