Rhino Linings Corp. has acquired Advanced Coating Solutions, a protective and marine coatings maker and longtime Rhino supplier.

Advanced Coating Solutions, based in Bellevue, WA, provides thermal insulation coatings for marine, industrial and commercial applications.

Rhino's five business units include Rhino Industrial, which makes spray-on elastomeric coatings for containment, roofs, wastewater plants and other applications.

Acquiring the supplier brings its products and personnel in house and gives Advanced Coating more resources for new development, Rhino announced Tuesday (Nov. 5).

'So Much Potential'

"We've been a customer of Advanced Coating Solutions for years, and we see so much potential—not just in their current products, but also in new products they want to commercialize," said Pierre Gagnon, president and CEO of Rhino Linings, based in San Diego, CA.

Rhino says it will continue to produce Advanced Coating Solutions' thermal insulation coatings for industrial, marine and commercial applications.

"We saw an opportunity to help them reach their potential, and to play a role in bringing new products to market."

Founded in 1988, Rhino Linings has five divisions, Vehicle Protection, Industrial, Epoxy, Flooring and Military.

Same Products, More Price Competition

Rhino said it would continue producing Advanced Coating Solutions' current commercial products, which include water-based polyurethanes, acrylic coatings and water-based acrylic emulsion coatings.

In addition, Rhino said, because of its scale of production and logistics network, the ACS products "will be more price competitive in the market."

ACS employees will be relocated to Rhino's San Diego headquarters, and production will be based in that facility.

Additional terms of the acquisition were not released.
