Constant, real-time collaboration—bolstered by photos, videos, diagrams and documentswith every member of a construction project team is the promise of a new communication tool developed by FieldLens Inc. of New York.

Project members can instantly update each other on progress and problems in real time.

FieldLens allows subcontractors, general contractors, design team members and owners to coordinate, update and share every detail of a project, through reports, photos, videos or instantly created websites, the developer says.

'Constant Collaboration'

"Construction is not just time and materials," the company says. "Every project large and small requires constant collaboration."

With FieldLens, "Everyone on the project is connected."

The system connects subcontractors, general contractors, design team members and owners offline or online. It is currently available only in selected U.S. regions.

FieldLens works on Android, iOS and the web; any smartphone, tablet or computer (laptop or desktop) is compatible, the company says. Smart devices function from an app, and computers work from a web app.

FieldLens also has features allowing users to collaborate with non-FieldLens users from within the app.

The system is being rolled out gradually throughout the United States and is being offered by invitation only until early 2014.

Features and Functionality

FieldLens allows a range of project communications, including:

  • Private collaboration on tasks with co-workers;

  • Coordinating the work of multiple contractors in the field; and

  • One-click conversion of jobsite notes into formatted observation reports.

FieldLens

FieldLens works on Android, iOS and the web. Users can also communicate with non-FieldLens users.

The project directory is synced on all participating devices, and all contacts for the project are organized automatically, allowing all users to text, call or email anyone on the project directly from the system.

Project information can be organized as the user desires and can be seen that way across all devices. The system also boasts "custom filtered newsfeeds, powerful sorting options, and a gallery of images and videos for every jobsite issue," the developer says.

The cost of the system is $15 per user per month if paid annually or $20 per user per month if paid month to month.
