A new handheld dust monitor to measure dangerous concentrations of inhalable dust and aerosols is the latest offering by Casella CEL, a manufacturer of instruments for the safety, industrial hygiene and environmental markets.

The CEL-712 Microdust Pro is a real-time dust monitor that uses a laser diode-based light-scattering sensor to instantly detect dangerous concentrations of airborne particles and aerosols in the workplace, the company says.

The CEL-712 Microdust Pro handheld dust monitor has a detachable probe to reach into small spaces.

The product can be used in industries such as paint and pigments, pit mining, construction and demolition boundary monitoring, chemical processing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, environmental health and safety, public sector, defense, site remediation and utilities.

Multiple Uses

Applications include spot checks, walk-through surveys or continuous evaluation of fast-changing environments, according to Casella CEL. The Microdust Pro can be used independently to measure material processes, filter performance or to capture release events such as bag breaks. It can also be paired with a cyclone, filter cassette and sample pump for size-selective or gravimetric monitoring.

"Real-time monitoring by the Microdust Pro warns users of the presence of an immediate health-related issue, which is especially critical in pharmaceutical or chemical batch processes that could expose employees to sudden, high-levels of inhalable powders," said Rob Brauch, Business Unit Manager for Casella CEL.

The monitor has a graphical color display and icon-driven interface and a wide maximum measurement range of 0.001 to 25,000 mg/m3, the company says. It can be zero- and span-calibrated in the field with an on-site calibration device and has a detachable probe to reach into breathing zones, small spaces and ducts.

According to Casella CEL, the Microdust Pro can store up to 999 measurements and comes with comprehensive analysis software.
