3M has expanded its line of respirators with a new series designed for extreme conditions.

The Rugged Comfort Half Facepiece Reusable Respirator 6500 Series offers a "soft but firm" silicone faceseal for high-heat environments.

The respirator has polyester-spandex straps, an adjustable head harness assembly and a low-profile design for compatibility with other personal protective equipment, such as welding and griding shields, 3M says.

Easy Off and On

The 6500 respirator series also includes a valve cover design that directs exhaled breath and moisture downward to reduce fogging. According to the company, the half facepiece is designed for a wide field of view.

3M 6500 respirator series

3M's new 6500 respirator series is designed for wear with other personal protective equipment, the company says.

"The proprietary quick latch design offers an easy, one-hand-touch drop-down mechanism for putting the facepiece on and taking it off while moving in and out of contaminated areas," said Kevin Newman, product marketing for 3M's Personal Safety Division.

"The quick latch also eliminates the need to remove a hardhat or faceshield when lowering or raising the respirator," Newman said.

About 3M

The 3M Personal Safety Division products include respiratory, hearing and fall protection; reflective materials for high visibility apparel, protective clothing and eyewear; head and face protection; and welding helmets.
