DuPont Powder Coatings has teamed up with The Thermoclad Company, of Erie, PA, to provide a new line of thermoplastic powder coatings for corrosion protection.

Available throughout North America, DuPont ABCITE by Thermoclad has been formulated as a tough, chip-resistant finish that provides corrosion and UV protection without a primer. The coating can be electrostatically applied or fluid bed dipped.

Anti-corrosion ABCITE is based on the same polymer used for the outer surface of golf balls. Applications include park and playground equipment, railings and light poles.

ABCITE is based on DuPont’s Surlyn resin, the same polymer used for the outer surface of golf balls. End-use applications include park and playground equipment, fence panels, balustrades, railings and light poles.

Performance and Features

The product is available in a large color palette and is designed to provide:

• Corrosion and salt spray resistance;

• Adhesion & impact resistance (on metal, glass and plastics);

• Abrasion resistance;

• Chemical resistance; and

• Soft touch / Noise dampening.

ABCITE has been approved for potable water contact, although the manufacturer recommends consulting with local approvals.

The product can be applied with a one-pass coating process (no primer or curing required) by dipping or spraying. The VOC-free, halogen-free coating has a five-year shelf life, with no refrigeration required.

DuPont is a leading U.S. manufacturer of thermoplastic powder coatings, and DuPont Powder Coatings is a leading global supplier of powder coatings systems. Thermoclad, founded in 1963, pioneered PVC powder compounding technology.
