Gaco Western, a manufacturer of elastomeric coatings and polyurethane spray foam for the construction and waterproofing markets, named Dan Nelson vice president of R&D. He will lead the company’s research and development program at the company’s manufacturing facility in Waukesha, Wis.
Nelson has more than 25 years of experience in polymer science, in the areas of coatings applications and formulation and in resin synthesis. He was formerly with James Hardie Building Products, where he was responsible for intellectual-property management, corporate quality, building practices, coatings development, technical service, and analytical labs. He also was formerly director of R&D, quality and purchasing for Diamond Vogel Corp., and was the global technology manager for the CASPI division of Eastman Chemical Company.
Nelson started his career with SC Johnson Polymer, where he held technical positions and led the establishment of its coatings polymer business in the Asia Pacific region. He has a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Wisconsin.

Gaco Western’s product portfolio includes polyurethane spray foam insulation and a line of silicone, acrylic, epoxy, and urethane coatings. Products include specialty coatings for roof, pedestrian, and traffic decking and spray polyurethane insulation for commercial, industrial and residential applications.
