The Corrosion Technician is responsible for all facets of field executed corrosion prevention duties including cathodic protection, internal corrosion control, atmospheric corrosion control, protective coating and linings, materials selection and design/project support. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Cathodic Protection:
  • Perform and/or coordinate annual surveys on cathodically protected pipeline.
  • Perform and/or coordinate bi-monthly rectifier and bond inspections.
  • Perform and/or coordinate interference testing.
  • Perform and/or coordinate close interval surveys.
  • Perform and/or coordinate insulator tests and identify shorts.
  • Identify and properly mitigate HVAC interference.
  • Prepare and submit in a timely manner, records for all surveys, tests, work progress reports, or other related documentation.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation through database recording or hard copy paperwork.

Internal Corrosion Control
  • Perform and/or coordinate the monitoring and treatment for internal corrosion.
  • Perform and/or coordinate the installation of corrosion coupon monitoring and sample collection sites.
  • Review system-operating data, at least annually, to determine the need for additional internal corrosion monitoring,cleaning pigging and/or chemical treatment.
  • Work closely with Operations to establish and initiate cleaning pigging frequency.
  • Periodically perform and/or coordinate the necessary adjustments of the internal corrosion prevention methods/techniques based upon corrosion rate data and liquid and solids sample analysis.
  • Collect liquid and solids samples for analysis.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation through database recording or hard copy paperwork.
Atmospheric Corrosion Control:
  • Perform atmospheric coating inspections on above ground facilities and pipe exposures.
  • Assist operations with prioritization and planning of coating projects based on inspection data.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation through database recording or hard copy paperwork.
Protective Coatings and Linings:?
  • Assist engineering and operations in the selection of appropriate coatings for new or existing assets.
  • Perform inspections, as needed for maintenance and engineering projects, to assess the effectiveness and condition of the existing coating system.
  • Material selection and Design
  • Assist engineering and operations in the selection of appropriate materials and design procedures for new or existing assets.
Analyze all corrosion data and create and initiate mitigation plans.
  • Develop and maintain annual deficiency reports on Enterprise related facilities.
  • Develop and submit for approval corrosion prevention AFE’s.
  • Responsible for the creation and acquiring approval of corrosion prevention job plans.
  • Manage corrosion prevention projects as assigned.
  • Coordinate/schedule corrosion prevention projects with Operations Control, Field Operations, Land Department, Pipeline Integrity and Safety Department.
  • Responsible for monthly corrosion prevention project cost tracking updates.
  • Provide corrosion prevention system design review on new pipeline and plant projects.
Maintain compliance with Federal and State agencies governing corrosion control.
  • Understand and comply with codes, regulations, reporting procedures, and standard practices, including, but not limited to DOT Part 192, Part 195, and Enterprise Procedure Manuals.
  • Maintain compliance and support with Operator Qualification program.
  • Perform Operator Qualification evaluations on company and contract personnel in accordance with the Enterprise OQ program.
Communicate and work closely with other groups such as local Field Operations, Pipeline Integrity and Project Engineering.
  • Assist other groups with all corrosion control related activities.
  • Assist local Operations in day-to-day activities as necessary as associated with corrosion prevention.
  • Assist local Operations in emergency response activities.
Project Support
  • Perform corrosion and coating evaluations on exposed pipe due to projects or maintenance.
  • Provide corrosion prevention system design review on new pipeline and below grade plant piping projects.
