The general purpose of this position is to utilize a high pressure air system connected to a sand blaster and/or high pressure water hose to clean the interiors of tank, hopper, box, flat and gondola-railroad cars. Successfully pass appropriate qualification testing for the position. Maintain knowledge of, and be capable to blast, clean and prepare interior and exterior substrates to the particular SSPC Surface preparation designation called for, perform efficiently versus time standards. Maintains current knowledge of industry, customer and company standards, procedures, policy/rules. Inspects and assures their workmanship meets quality standards established by company and customer specifications and participates in nonconformance root cause investigations, corrective action and makes efforts for continuous improvement of quality and the elimination of nonconformances. Must ensure that all company guidelines are met, and that all safety rules are followed when performing duties. In addition, must be able to read and complete car repairs in compliance with FRA & AAR rules and keep good repair records.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Removes defective/damaged blast hoses and trigger lights as needed
• Protects components from blast media as appropriate
• Properly stores all PPE and safely moves cars in and out of blast booths
• Maintains a clean free from trip work area
Performs other duties as assigned
