Key Responsibilities
•
Develop new or improved products in accordance with project goals and design criteria.
•
Perform raw material evaluations and/or formula engineering for cost reduction.
•
Assist with equipment maintenance and calibration.
•
Assist with ordering raw materials and lab supplies as needed.
•
Interface with Manufacturing to solve formulation and/or process problems.
•
Monitor first production of new and/or modified products.
•
Enter formulations and QC test data into computer system.
•
Perform comparative testing to identify strengths/weaknesses versus competitive products.
•
Assist Sales by preparing show or test panels for customer use.
•
Interface with raw material suppliers on new or problem raw materials.
•
Interface with and/or direct Quality Control activities related to trial or scale-up batches or batch correction.
•
Perform analytical and/or other testing related to product complaints or claims investigations.
•
Maintain lab notebooks and other records.
•
Write monthly progress reports and Technical Reports.
•
Any other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
Experience and Education:
BS, MS, or PhD Degree Chemistry or equivalent.
•
Experience with development of high-solids and/or solventless coatings products
•
Experience with development of waterborne and latex coatings products.
•
Familiarity with ASTM and ISO coating testing protocols.
•
Familiarity with air spray and airless spray coating application techniques.
•
Good written and verbal communication skills (writing sample will be requested).
•
Good organizational and planning skills - time management is important.
•
Good prioritization skills - ability to handle multiple tasks/projects.
•
Must be self-motivated and equally comfortable working independently as well as part of a team.
•
Competency with Microsoft Office program suite, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
10-15 years of paint experience required
EHS Training - Emergency Response, Hazardous Waste, Fire Safety, Industrial Ergonomics, PPE, Walking and Working Surfaces.
