As a cautionary note, the single pack, water-based intumescent coatings are alkaline in reaction and there is a possibility that they will react with galvanised/zinc plated steel components and similarly with zinc rich primers, if applied directly, to result in wholesale bond failure. This may not be noticeable unless the coating becomes damaged or there is a fire.
