Lot of theoretical detail... Practical in the real world. Wait for these ideal conditions; and you will never get a coatings project underway. Sounds good for shop applied coatings.

In order to dilute the solvent concentration, one must consider several other factors. MW of the solvent, the efficiency of the ventilation or K factor, air density, etc. This is not a subject to be taken lightly and a knowledgeable CSP or CIH should be consulted before attempting to calculate this value. I have published on this topic previously and recommend that professionals be consulted.

Robert stated in his example that a CIH or equivalent should be consulted for actual usage - the examples were still well worthwhile to have in the article.

Thanks Tom & Pete. Pete is of course correct that an accurate analysis of solvents in air requires many more details and should be performed by a CIH or other qualified professional. In fact, at a real world construction jobsite, one is dealing with so many variables I think the best method to assure safety is with actual field measurement. That said, I think it is still of value to have a general idea of what is involved, at least conceptually. It helps contractors and supervisors communicate with safety professionals and consultants, helps them train their workers, and helps avoid problems when conditions change.
