Comment from Stephen Mellon, (5/30/2013, 1:26 PM)

Coal and Copper slag will/should have all the same warnings and labels about the Beryllium problem they have.

Comment from Burt Olhiser, (6/6/2013, 10:59 PM)

I'm not sure what Mr. Mellon's comment on Beryllium is doing here and especially as I have done a lost of air monitoring for Be over the years and have never had a single hit, so have concluded that it's really pretty much a boogeyman, but as this is an open forum I suppose he listed it here for a reason. Anyway, in response to Alison's questions at the close of her excellent article I submit that no, today's work practices do not reflect the best that could be done to protect workers. They do I think protect the environment very well and in fact excellently but at the same time not all that could be done for the workers is being done. As for a reawakening, one can only hope that one occurs so that the current generation of painters will not have to endure the consequences of being lead poisoned from time to time during the span of their careers, as the inescapable fact is that those occurrences have adverse quality of life altering consequences.
