A Towering Tale of Bridge Coating: How Caltrans Kept Quality High and Costs Low

The Vincent Thomas Bridge serves as a major route of transportation in Los Angeles County. When the 53,500-square foot west tower needed to be cleaned and painted, Caltrans used a service contract for containment and access and the agency’s in-house paint crew for the rest of the work, saving $700,000. In this article, the author describes the six-month process.

The Economic Stimulus Package of 2009: An Update
